Allow Me to Introduce Myself

So, let’s start this blog out with a confession.  This is actually not my first blog entry.  The first one was dated a few months ago.  It was published and then deleted.  Why?  Well, it was one of those, what we’ll call, “practice runs.”  You know, like when you wake up ready to go on a diet, but you’re running late, so it’s Breakfast Meal #3 at the drive-thru again.  Or even when you have your “diet food” ready, but then you get the invite for Mexican and you can’t resist overindulging.  Practice runs are a dime a dozen in many areas of life, but that term implies that they are warm-ups for the “perfect” run.  One problem—there is really no such thing as the “perfect” run, right?  So just like you may have put off starting that diet until the “perfect” time, I’ve put off starting this blog waiting for the “perfect” time.  And then I woke up and realized that if I know that there is no perfect run, then what am I waiting for?  There’s no time like the present.  It won’t be perfect.  It will be a process.  There’s no plan to “stick” to—I’ll go with the flow.   My intentions are the same as they were months ago–to create a blog sharing my insights on medical topics, the journey towards health & wellness and just plain life.  The blog is meant to connect with my patients and others in a way that a physician isn’t always able to do in the confines of an office visit.

A little bit about myself. . .
I am a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician.  I’m an “expert” on the prevention and management of chronic disease and other areas of family healthcare.  I am not expert at walking the walk.  I want nothing more than to motivate people to enjoy their healthiest lives possible, but I am all too aware that the process can be difficult.  That’s part of the beauty of this blog—much of it will be written from a real-life, personal point of view rather than an expert point of view.

Those who know me know that writing a blog is just about as out of character for me as it gets.  I am a pretty (actually very) private person.  In fact I’ve been known to be annoyed at people asking nosy questions, when in reality they’re probably just making small talk.  Oops.  So how does someone go from being overly private to sharing a blog about topics from her personal perspective?  I have no clue really.  In fact, it still makes me a little nervous/nauseated to think about other people reading this.  I remember talking with someone about the fact that everyone & their brother seems to have a blog these days and I remember him saying to me, “I could understand you writing a blog.  You’re a doctor.  You have valuable things to say that people would benefit from.”  Of course, I completely laughed it off at the time.  But here I am writing a blog hoping that anyone interested/bored enough to read it will benefit from the valuable things I have to say.
Enjoy!
